Walk To Supper Under Your Hat

BroadwayJanet Hume walks across El Camino Avenue to the farmer’s market at Country Club Plaza to buy fixings for her Saturday night dinner. She says that cauliflower is the perfect “meaty” vegetable for either a puree, stir-fry or salad.

“I like farmer’s markets because I ditch my car,” says Janet, a teacher for San Juan Unified Schools. She is a regular at the Saturday market at Country Club Plaza off of Watt Avenue because it is open in the winter and always has live music.  The main reason she prefers the open air market, however, is that it provides an enjoyable destination. Walking for a mile to the market gives her a solid exercise routine but also provides an end-point or destination which is fun and rewarding. “I chat with the vendors and listen to the music, too. It makes an entire morning for me.”
